The Actress States Speaking About Donald Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ Tearing the Nation Apart
Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she finds it inappropriate suitable to comment publicly countering the Trump administration, worried it could intensify divisive discussions and deepen rifts within the nation.
‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Says the Actress
In a recent interview, Lawrence commented, “During the first Trump administration, I thought I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But it’s become clear, through repeated campaigns, public figures fail to influence whatsoever on voter decisions.”
Lawrence added, “Why continue? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire that’s ripping the nation apart.”
Shifting Views
The actress has spoken candidly about backing Republican and Democratic contenders over the years. Brought up by a right-leaning family in her home state, she voted for the Republican nominee in 2008 then moving to the Democrats and revealing she understood during Obama’s administration that supporting the GOP was voting against her individual liberties as a woman.
Previous Comments
In 2015, she commented that Donald Trump’s election would be “a catastrophic event” and endorsed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. More recently, she voiced her backing to the Democratic nominee, “because I think she’s an amazing candidate and I am confident that she will make every effort to defend women’s health rights.”
Hollywood’s Stance
Lawrence was supported by many in the entertainment industry in her disapproval of Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the lack of leverage public figures have over the public choices was underscored by his election win.
“The second term seems distinct,” said the actress regarding his administration. “Because he said what he was going to do. We were aware of his actions for the previous administration. He was explicit. And that’s the option selected.”
Latest Film
Jennifer Lawrence is discussing Die, My Love, the filmmaker’s project in which she plays a recent parent who deals with her mental health in a remote area. During a media event for the film in Venice, she addressed Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “I’m terrified. It’s horrifying. What’s happening is nothing short of a genocide and it’s terrible.”
Wider Issues
The actress elaborated by saying that she was disappointed by “the lack of civility in the discourse of American politics at present and how that is going to be commonplace to the children now. It’s going to be standard to them that elected officials deceive.”
The actor aimed to shift anger about the conflict to decision-makers rather than celebrities. “Stay focused on the people in charge,” she remarked, which was interpreted as a nod to the then-recent pledge signed by more than 4,000 entertainment industry figures to boycott Israeli film institutions.
Personal Connections
Jennifer Lawrence, who won an Oscar early in her career for her performance in her breakout movie, is receiving praise for her work in Die, My Love. Although Ramsay has disputed the story being understood as one of postpartum depression and psychological distress, Lawrence shared that she did relate to aspects of her character’s journey after the birth of her second son, not long after filming concluded.
“There was concern about my child,” she explained, “envisioning every potential danger, and then questioning everything that I was doing. I was seeing a therapist, but I got on a drug called the prescription and I used it for two weeks and it made a difference.”
Career Moments
Lawrence also mentioned about the freeing requirement of filming without clothes in the film while she was some months pregnant and limited physically.
“There’s a freedom,” she commented, of being forced to abandon insecurities. “Honestly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What technically are the differences between myself and a sex worker? But it isn’t a major concern.”
