Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for questions to be raised about his future following another convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in twelve matches, representing the team's poorest run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got a lot of backing from the top,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to change things and get a victory naturally but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “During our regular exchanges I feel the confidence. But I've not talked to them since this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Reaction
Slot expressed regret over known weaknesses from his squad in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell such as this with performances like these.”
Jones finished, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we'll continue to battle.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to where it needs to be, show everyone again the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
