Iran Claims Strike on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Military Operations.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched operations across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any destruction is not yet known and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Regional Interceptions
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - reported they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was targeting US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck sites linked to the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to revolt against the government.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the missiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted missile fragments fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
