A Heap of Anime News Arrived Over the Holidays
The Christmas holidays present a plethora of activities considerably more enjoyable than catching up on the updates: opening presents, feasting on festive fare, and using meditation skills to refrain from yelling at relatives. I hope you were able to accomplish all these things and more. However, the entertainment world doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous noteworthy news items emerged over the break, and if you didn't see any, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Will Continue (Come 2027)
Truly the most shocking piece of news, the widely-criticized disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to deter the series' continuation. Season 3 will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—such a distant date they easily could have dubbed it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which might be a positive development. However, the key visual for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, nowadays, they must be mocking the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an top-tier animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the exceptional quality of its output but for the ethical practices of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it first appeared in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now fans are ecstatic about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up Currently in Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been running for years, and its sixth season was yet another outstanding entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will probably debut in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
A further studio famous for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an prominent woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my watchlist.
Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Season Two
Immediately following the release of the final episode of the first season, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific premiere date has not yet been announced.
